Carless for Christmas… but that’s all good.
About two weeks ago, in the later part of the evening, I was coming home from Gian’s and suddenly realized that pressing on my gas pedal was doing nothing more than making a cool sounding engine noise. And when your car is in gear, that’s not a good sign.
So when you push on the gas and your engine just revs like that, it could mean a few different things. But since my clutch started slipping a few weeks ago, well… it was pretty obvious.
Try as I might to will my car to be a streamlined bullet train or distance cyclist, it was of no use and rapidly becoming a reality that I would not conquer the final hill and I ever… so… slowly rolled to a dead stop. In the dark. In the rain. In the forest. At 2am.
Rad.
Best part? This was about a mile from my house. Had I made it just a few hundred feet further to the crest of the hill, I would have easily been able to coast to the house. Oh well. At least I have free towing.
For the next two hours I hung out and listened to a mixture of music + heavy rain and tried to surf the web on my phone. Had heat too so it really wasn’t all that bad. That and the six or so random cars that slowed to a crawl and then sped off kept me occupied. Damn scavengers, lol.

When the tow truck showed, I got all creative. This one came out kinda cool.

Aliens stole my ride. Haters.

The tow truck driver was actually the same guy that came and hooked up my car the last time it went down almost a year ago. Even got a pic of him by accident. Found it!

Really cool guy. We had a good laugh about it… that and it took under two minutes to drive over to my house.
Long story short, since I have a decent knowledge of how these cars tick, and the help of a far more knowledgeable friend, I’m opting to do the work here. This will be no minor undertaking to say the least but I’m confident it can be accomplished.
So after spending two days clearing out the center section of the garage, I finally pushed her in and promptly collapsed.

Already got my replacement clutch in the mail, yay! While my old clutch was geared more towards performance, this one is widely known as a more conservative and reliable replacement for the OEM clutch that comes from the factory. Should drive pretty nice (knock on wood). And if things go south this time, I have my trusty gallon sized tin of Denatured Alcohol to self medicate accordingly.
